Tasty Catering is proud to rank #8 on Crain’s Chicago Best Places to Work list. By sharing company resources, Tasty Catering tries to help employees save a little money. That includes allowing workers to borrow equipment like tents, pig roasters and corn roasters for personal events. When employees move to a new home, they rarely pay moving fees because they can use company trucks at no charge—and co-workers often pitch in to help, CEO Tom Walter says.
Employees also can meet with the company’s financial adviser each quarter to get 401(k) advice. Those factors contribute to a common refrain in the Crain’s survey: Tasty Catering treats its employees “like family.” Says Mr. Walter: “Our focus is on making this a functional family environment, not a dysfunctional one.”
